U.S. Capitol Tour by staff from Senator Jerry Moran’s (KS) Office
Noon - Lunch
Union Station DC – a restored, historic, mixed-use train station with shopping and eating establishments.
Afternoon
Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial honoring the boy from Abilene, KS who went on to be the Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in Europe during World War II and the 34th President of the United States.
U.S. Air Force Memorial honors the service and heritage of the men and women of the United States Air Force. Three stainless steel spires soar into the sky surrounded by granite walls with inscriptions describing valor and values of aviation pioneers. They include a quote from Kansas native, 5-Star General Richard B. Myers, former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff after 9/11.
National 9/11 Pentagon Memorial dedicated to the 184 people who died as victims in the building and on American Airlines Flight 77 during the September 11 attacks.
Inclement Weather Alternatives: Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, Washington Cathedral, National Portrait Gallery, etc.

Welcome to Washington Reception – enjoy “light fare” at the Belvedere Condominium where Jim and Carolyn will call home. We’ll convene in the party room on the main level off the lobby and then you are welcome to come up to what will be OUR condo, #1810.
The Belvedere is located at 1600 N. Oak Street, Arlington, VA 22209 in the Rosslyn section of Arlington just ½ block from the Residence Inn Arlington Rosslyn.

Meet at the Residence Inn lobby to leave for the Explore Rosslyn walking tour; our shuttle bus will pick up and drop off at the Residence Inn for the Arlington National Cemetery portion.
Explore Rosslyn, VA (walking tour within a 5-block radius starting at the Residence Inn) - a heavily urbanized unincorporated area in Northern Virginia located in the northeastern corner of Arlington County, Virginia, north of Arlington National Cemetery and directly across the Potomac River from Georgetown and Foggy Bottom in Washington, D.C.
Points of Interest include the garage where Deep Throat met Washington Post reporters to share information during the Watergate scandal, a place where the Internet was invented, a Methodist church that sits over a gas station and a Safeway grocery store under an office building.
Arlington National Cemetery – Our shuttle bus will get you to the entrance. Then, you can walk through the Cemetery grounds or there’s a Hop-On Hop-Off Tram Tour with Guide within the Cemetery with stops at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and President Kennedy’s Gravesite; tours are 30 minutes and $19.50 each. Tickets can be purchased onsite at the Arlington Cemetery Visitor’s Center. Return to Residence Inn via our shuttle bus.

Smithsonian American History Museum – the more than 1.7 million objects include Dorothy’s Ruby Red Slippers from the Wizard of Oz, Julia Childs’ Kitchen, The First Lady’s Gowns, the flag that inspired Frances Scott Key to write the Star Spangled Banner, etc.
The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts – premier destination for live and online arts in Washington, D.C. The Center is home to the exhibit exploring Kennedy’s appreciation and promotion of the arts and why the Kennedy Center came to be the living memorial to him and his ideals.

Clock Tower of the Waldorf Astoria Washington DC Hotel - Part of the former Old Post Office and attached to the hotel, the tower is among D.C.’s tallest and offers 360-degree views of the city. Ride the elevator to explore the tower’s exhibits and gaze for miles from the 270-foot observation deck.
Iwo Jima U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial - a national memorial located in the Rosslyn section of Arlington. The memorial was dedicated in 1954 to all Marines who have given their lives in defense of the United States since 1775.
National Washington Cathedral – World’s sixth – largest Gothic cathedral; church service is at 11:15 am.
